About

Michael Jennings graduated with a BA (Hons) in Modern History from Oxford University, before undertaking his masters degree and PhD in the history department at SOAS. He has taught at Oxford, Swansea University, and is now a Senior Lecturer in the Development Studies Department at SOAS.

Michael’s research focuses on the history and politics of development in East Africa, especially issues surrounding governance and development, civil society, the role of non-governmental organisations and non-state providers in social development. He also works on social aspects of health, including HIV and AIDS, and health care provision in East Africa; and on the faith-based organisations, politics and development.

Michael writes regular political briefing papers on a range of issues related to sub-Saharan Africa
