About

I am currently writing up my dissertation on state-society relations in Egypt, in which I take an ethnographic approach to look at cultures of participation amongst youth in new popular quarters of Greater Cairo.  My research interests span Middle East politics and economy, including urban and everyday politics, resistance and political mobilisation, informal networks, conceptions of participation, as well as medieval and contemporary history of the region.  My doctoral fieldwork was carried out in three neighbourhoods of Giza.
